Gacha Cafe

Impressively, this store does bubble tea for $3. This seems to be Melbourne's cheapest bubble tea. They have cute gacha machines you can use too, which I guess helps to make up some of their profit margin. I figure the bubble tea is the low profit margin leader, to draw customers to the gachas. It's... Continue Reading →

The Whale Tea

Canberra has a decent selection of bubble tea, including a few independent stores. This one looked pretty authentic and also had good Google reviews. Store: The Whale TeaLocation: Canberra, AustraliaDrink: Milk Tea Rating: C-. Did not live up to its Google review. It was watery and had little tea presence. Instagram – thatbubbleteablog

MiXue (China) and key takeaways from my China trip

As I near the end of my trip, I wanted to sneak in this tester to compare if there was any difference between the Chinese and Australian one. It is a notable brand as I think it is the brand with the most stores in China, and it enjoys a decent level of popularity. Concluding... Continue Reading →

ChaPanda

I've been wanting to try this since the first day, as it was highly recommended by a friend. The first time I saw it in Kunming, the line was 30 minutes long so we passed on it. This time, in a smaller city, the line was much shorter. Store: ChaPandaLocation: Dali, ChinaDrink: Mei Zhan (梅占)... Continue Reading →

GoodMe (Visit #2)

The drink selection was limited because this time I committed to getting the bonus merchandise for my mum. The merchandise quality is quite good. Store: GoodMeLocation: Kunming, ChinaDrink: Matcha Coconut Milk Tea and Orange Jasmine Fruit Tea Rating: B. Not as good as the previous drink I selected, but still good. The consistency of the... KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)

Yep, so you know it's definitely not a mistake, I spelt it out. The cartoon Colonel is really KFC. They do milk teas but we have already just had a bubble tea so we chose their lemon tea as the drink in the meal combo. Store: KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)Location: Kunming, ChinaDrink: Lemon tea Rating:... Continue Reading →

Ningji Lemon Tea

I chose this store because it had a funny crocodile or alligator logo on its store front. The cup design was a bit strange. This reminds me, some of the Chinese teas have come with this skinny triplet straw. I'm not a fan, but I think it's designed for moderating the uptake of hot drinks,... Continue Reading →

米布 (MiBu) milk tea

Not many days left to try as much bubble tea as possible (within reason). This elephant logo caught my eye, and it seemed fairly popular. Store: XIANGZI tea shopLocation: Kunming, ChinaDrink: 米布 (MiBu) milk tea. Rating: B. The drink featured a solid milk tea. Good consistency with good tea presence. The tea had a slight... Bao Zhen Zhu

I haven't tried proper brown sugar pearls in China yet so when I saw this store specialising in them, I wanted to try. Store: Bao Zhen ZhuLocation: Kunming, ChinaDrink: Peach Oolong Milk Tea Rating: B. A light tea, with subtle floral notes followed by malty hints. The pearls were definitely the highlight and what brings... Continue Reading →

GoodMe

I picked this store because my mum was interested in their collaboration with a TV show. Even though I haven't seen this brand around much, I figured they must be pretty big to get a collab. Store: GoodMeLocation: Kunming, ChinaDrink: Hong Yun (Red Rhyme) Oolong Milk Tea Rating: A 🏅. A very tasty drink. Everything... Continue Reading →
